The UNESCO Chair of Dialogue at Kufa University cooperating with the Philosophy Department of the Faculty of Art at Kufa University s   organized a symposium about  “Building Peace, Renouncing Extremism and Terrorism” on Wednesday evening, 19/1/2022, in the presence of  (Dr. Alaa Shatnan )The Director of the UNESCO Chair for Dialogue and (Dr.Ahlam Majliy, Dr.Rayid Eubays, Mr. Faris Hrram ) From the philosophy department of the Faculty of Arts at Kufa University.

In his topic “Peacebuilding, nations concepts, and peacebuilding strategies,” Dr. Alaa Shatnan addressed the term peace-building as a United Nations concept that he defined and traced to its historical context within the United Nations and made clear the practical differences between it and peacemaking and peacekeeping in the context of preventive diplomacy at the United Nations, as well as he discussed the context in which the concept of peacebuilding and the most important impediments and then to look at peacebuilding strategies and their application in Iraq as a state out of the conflict.

While Dr.Ahlam Majliy discussed “Women’s Role of Countering Extremism and Terrorism” she explained the important role of women in society. she focused on the need of protecting them intellectually and culturally against extremism and terrorism. She gave important examples of the role of women in countering terrorism from Iraqi society.

Dr.Rayid Eubays mentioned a topic of (Iraq from regime terrorism to group terrorism, ISIS as a sample) in which he addressed the relationship between political regimes and terrorist organizations with religious cover, possible transitions from political activity to terrorist activity, and the factors and causes of the transition.

Mr. Faris Hrram also addressed the theme of  “cultural” peace in the Wadi Rafidain country) The diversity and difference in Iraqi society and its impact on Iraqi cultural circles, speaking of vivid experiences with cultural elites from different components of the Iraqi people and their fears about others that they are different in (religion, sectaries, or ethnic minority).
