World Interfaith Harmony Week

A very successful Open Day yesterday-the 2nd of February 2016. It marks the beginning of ‘World Interfaith Harmony Week’. This event was hosted by UNESCO Chair at the University of Kufa in collaboration with UN Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI). The chosen theme for the opening session of this event was “Promoting Community Reconciliation and Forgiveness”. To start with, an esteemed speaking panel was selected to comment on the aforementioned theme. The discussion was facilitated and moderated by Dr. Hassan Nadhem (UNESCO Chairholder). The event was described not just good …. But it was exemplary, as some participants stated! They also mentioned that the outcome of the discussions highlighted and provided insights to promoting tolerance, mutual respect and coexistence of interfaith relations in our country. Staff from other universities, e.g Baghdad and Karbala University, feel honoured to have been involved. They also stated that they were very impressed with the quality of presentations they saw, and they throughly enjoyed the vigorous debate panel sessions generated.

Thanks are due to UNAMI team who came from Baghdad for their fast and ever efficient support. Thank you also to the many academic and professional staff, and students, working tirelessly behind the scenes to help bring the UNESCO Chair activity to fruitio
