UNESCO Chair participated in the UNESCO Virtual Seminar (Sustainable Development and Financing for Development)

Dr. Alaa Shatnan, the director of the UNESCO Chair, participated in the virtual seminar
organized by UNESCO, the UNESCO Chairs Network, titled "Sustainable Development and
Financing for Development," on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM (Paris
time).
The seminar, themed "Sustainable Development and Financing for Development," provided
a platform for critical dialogue and knowledge exchange on the multidimensional and
evolving concept of 'sustainable development.' Drawing on the first chapter of the Future
Charter project, participants addressed how to better integrate education, science, culture,
and communication into the international agenda, considering current and growing financing
gaps, and how to attract and channel resources from diverse funding sources onto a
sustainable financing path. The seminar concluded that these ideas could help enhance a
more just, integrated, and coordinated approach in the long term for funding research,
policies, and programs at all levels.
Several specialized experts from various departments of UNESCO and UNESCO Chairs in
Brazil and Britain participated in the seminar.
