On Sunday, 2/11/2023, Dr Alaa Shatnan, Director of the UNESCO Chair at Kufa University, attended the Symposium on Fostering Cultural Heritage for Africa’s Future, decolonizing the Teaching and Learning of Africa’s History, which the UNESCO Chairs Network organized.
The symposium focused on the multidimensional challenges affecting preserving Africa’s rich and diverse cultural heritage. It aimed to bring together cultural representatives, experts, researchers, scientists, and government officials to discuss and promote Africa’s cultural heritage. The symposium also discussed challenges and opportunities for preserving and promoting Africa’s cultural heritage within UNESCO’s Operational Strategy for Priority Africa (2022-2029).
This symposium also highlighted initiatives to strengthen regional and national risk management capacities to Promote the exchange of experiences between African countries and international experts .it invites the promotion of cooperation between UNESCO chairs and the UNITWIN networks, cultural institutions and Governments in promoting cultural heritage to begin drawing up a standard road map to enable a more vital and concerted contribution from UNESCO chairs and UNITWIN networks to joint, interdisciplinary and comprehensive efforts to protect Africa’s cultural heritage.
