Dr. Alaa Shatnan, Director of the UNESCO Chair for Interreligious Dialogue, met with Dr. Hassanein Jaber Al-Hilu, Director of the Kufa Studies Center, at the Center’s headquarters on Sunday, May 4, 2025.
The meeting witnessed a thorough discussion on avenues of mutual cooperation, particularly concerning the organization of joint symposia, workshops, and conferences aligned with the Chair’s guiding principles of interfaith dialogue, pluralism, peacebuilding, and the promotion of peaceful coexistence. The two parties also deliberated on the prospects of co-publishing scholarly works by researchers affiliated with both the Chair and the Center, and addressed the key obstacles hindering such endeavors.
Furthermore, the conversation extended to the potential support that the Center could offer to the UNESCO Chair, particularly in drawing upon its expertise in the reissuance of Al-Kufa Journal in its anticipated new edition, which the Chair intends to launch in the coming months. Dr. Hassanein Al-Hilu expressed the Center’s full readiness—with its researchers and scholarly resources—to collaborate with the UNESCO Chair and to support its initiatives wholeheartedly.
