UNESCO Chair Participates in Academic Symposium on Imam Ali (Peace Be Upon Him) and the Concept of Martyrdom

The UNESCO Chair for the Development of Interfaith Dialogue Studies at the University of Kufa took part in the academic symposium organized by the Amir al-Mu’minin Center for Specialized Research and Studies on Sunday, the 26th of April 2026, under the theme “Imam Ali (Peace Be Upon Him) and the Responsibility of Bearing Witness.”

The symposium was delivered by the esteemed scholar His Eminence Sayyid Muhammad al-Hasani, a distinguished professor at the Religious Seminary (al-Hawza al-’Ilmiyya), in the presence of a select gathering of scholars and seminary students.

Dr. Ra’id ‘Ubais, who represented the UNESCO Chair at the aforementioned symposium, expressed the Chair’s keen interest in and wholehearted openness to participating in events alongside academic institutions, research centers, and civil society organizations that engage with religious and historical studies pertaining to interfaith and intercultural dialogue — endeavors devoted to the cultivation of a spirit of peace and harmonious coexistence among the diverse constituents of Iraqi society. This participation, he affirmed, serves the overarching purpose of entrenching the values of peaceful coexistence and societal security, in consonance with UNESCO’s objectives of consolidating the principles of sustainable development.
