the UNESCO Chair of Dialogue, participated as a representative of the University of Kufa, in UNESCO meetings for the 41st session were held in Paris, France, on Wednesday, along with the Iraqi delegation, which included Dr. Hassan Nazim, Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Antiquities, Laith Majid Hussein, head of the Antiquities and Heritage Authority, Falah Hassan Shaker, Director General of the Public Cultural Relations Department, Yassin Al-Ithawi, Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and Kazem Al-Rikabi, Chargé d’Affairs at the UNESCO representative, while the UNESCO delegation included Ozlay, Director-General of UNESCO, Ernesto Assistant Director-General of UNESCO, Director of UNESCO Office for Iraq, and Regional Officer.
Dr. Alaa Shatnan, Director of the UNESCO Chair at our University, said: The corridors of UNESCO at its current conference were marked by the active participation of the Iraqi delegation. The Iraqi delegation, in cooperation with the organization, held a symposium on Mosul. The Iraqi delegation thanked UNESCO and donor countries for their cooperation in the reconstruction of religious and heritage buildings in the old city of Mosul. At the margins of the conference, a film was shown on the reconstruction stages of the religious sites in Mosul and a large photographic exhibition on the old city in the midst of a large official presence.
Ernesto welcomed the Iraqi delegation to commend the efforts of the Iraqi Government, donor States, and UNESCO in partnership projects that helped move forward with the project to “Revive the Spirit of Mosul”.
