On Thursday, March 10, 2022, Archbishop Mitja Leskovar, Apostolic Nuncio-Ambassador of the Holy See-Vatican, as well as the accompanying church delegation, visited the University of Kufa and the UNESCO Chair for Dialogue. The visit of the Apostolic Nuncio-Ambassador of the Holy See-Vatican commemorated the first anniversary of the visit of the Pope to Iraq and his historic meeting with supreme leader Sayyid Ali al Sistani in Najaf Al-Ashraf. Dr. Ghani Al-Khaqani, Assistant to the President of the University for Administrative Affairs, and the Director of the UNESCO Chair, Dr. Alaa Shatnan, were there to greet the delegation when they came to visit. The Apostolic Nuncio Ambassador expressed his pleasure at visiting Najaf and the University of Kufa and commended the role of the university and the UNESCO Chair for Dialogue in supporting religious dialogue in Iraq. An introduction to the work of the UNESCO Chair was given by Dr. Alaa Shatnan at the start of the meeting.
