Dr. Alaa Shatnan, the director of the UNESCO Chair, participated in the UNESCO seminar titled “Transforming Knowledge for Africa’s Future: Decolonizing the Teaching and Learning of Africa’s History”
The UNESCO Chair participated in a UNESCO seminar titled “Transforming Knowledge for Africa’s Future: Decolonizing the Teaching and Learning of Africa’s History.” The seminar, held on October 25, 2023, focused on the effective contribution of higher education and research institutions in guiding the teaching and learning of African history on the continent and beyond. Many UNITWIN and UNESCO chairs, along with other experts, engaged in discussions on various perspectives and methods to decolonize education and the teaching of African history within educational systems. The seminar addressed several topics, including the evolution of shared knowledge and systems based on original knowledge, the impacts on teacher training institutes, program transformation, teaching methods, and the use of native African languages.
