UNESCO Chair Holds a Symposium on Linguistics between Theory and Practice.

On World Arabic Language Day, the UNESCO Chair, in collaboration with the Faculty of Languages at the University of Kufa, organized a scientific seminar on “Linguistics between Theory and Practice”. The seminar was held on Thursday, December 21, 2023, and was presented by Visiting Professor Yassin Taha Yassin from the Institute of Translation at the University of Algeria.

Professor Yassin provided a brief historical explanation of linguistics, defined the term, and reviewed modern linguistic concepts and their origin. The researcher also highlighted the impact of De Saussure’s dualities on learning and acquiring languages, especially for language students. In his recommendations, Professor Yassin emphasized the need to give students, especially distinguished students, the opportunity to “linguistic coexistence” in language-speaking countries to promote learning and acquisition. He focused on the importance of theoretical language education in addition to the applied aspect by practising the second language in daily communication during the university study period by boosting applied language practices and not only theoretical methods.
