Principles of Governance and Citizenship in the Thought of Imam Ali (Peace Be Upon Him) at an International Seminar

The Imam Amir al-Mu’minin (peace be upon him) Center for Specialized Studies and Research, in cooperation with the UNESCO Chair at the University of Kufa, organized a discussion forum entitled “Principles of Governance and Citizenship in the Thought of Imam Amir al-Mu’minin (peace be upon him).” The seminar was held on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, and witnessed the participation of an international delegation comprising academics and religious scholars from France and Madagascar. The session was moderated by Dr. Hasnain Jaber Al-Hilu, Director of the Kufa Studies Center.

Key Contributions:

  • Dr. Mortada Khaliq (Sorbonne University) highlighted the significance of Imam Ali’s (peace be upon him) intellectual legacy in constructing a genuine state of citizenship, grounded in justice, equality, and the realization of societal well-being.
  • Dr. Tahseen Fadhil (UNESCO Chair – University of Kufa) emphasized the necessity of integrating scholarly research to identify the foundational principles of Imam Ali’s system of governance, and to draw inspiration from them in fostering sound and responsible citizenship.
  • The delegation from the University of Madagascar, consisting of Dr. Marc Tiana, Sheikh Shamir Ali Muhammad Khoja, and Sheikh Azad Asghar Ali Khoja, actively contributed through scholarly interventions and research discussions.

Seminar Recommendations:

The forum featured an extensive dialogue on mechanisms for translating Alid values and principles into practical realities capable of advancing Islamic countries and their systems of governance. The event concluded with His Eminence Sayyid Ali Al-Jabiri, the General Supervisor, presenting certificates of appreciation to the researchers and the visiting delegation in recognition of their distinguished scholarly efforts.
