The UNESCO Chair for Interreligious Dialogue at the University of Kufa participated in the Memory Enhancement Festival organized by the College of Science at the University of Kufa on Sunday, April 13, 2025, under the slogan “So That We Do Not Forget.” The festival highlighted the crimes of the former regime and the atrocities committed by extremist terrorist organizations that targeted the Iraqi people and all its ethnic components indiscriminately, in an attempt to destabilize its social fabric, threaten civil peace, and impose a totalitarian policy and dark ideological agendas.
Dr. Raed Obais, representative of the UNESCO Chair participating in the festival, recalled the Anfal campaign crimes against the Kurds, the mass graves that affected the people of the central and southern regions, and the criminal terrorist operations that almost threatened civil peace and could have led to sectarian strife, if not for the unity of the Iraqi people in confronting such conspiracies, facing challenges, and achieving peace and coexistence.
He stressed the necessity and importance of such activities within academic institutions to raise students’ and youth’s awareness of the nature of these crimes, so they are not misled and become more conscious of the importance of civil peace, acceptance of others, and embracing ethnic diversity.
