Assistant Professor Dr. Raed Abais, a member of the UNESCO Chair for the Development of Interreligious Dialogue Studies at the University of Kufa, participated in the dialogue seminar organized by the Al-Makeen Center for Sciences and Knowledge under the title “The 1920 Revolution: Between Religious Principles and Social Transformations.” The seminar was held at the Center’s conference hall on Tuesday, 30 June 2026.
The seminar examined the Iraqi people’s experience in responding to the political, economic, and social transformations that unfolded during the Ottoman and British occupations, developments that gave rise to a series of popular uprisings, most notably the 1920 Revolution, which was launched in response to a religious decree (fatwa) calling for resistance against the British occupation.
The session further highlighted the significance of religious experiences grounded in openness and reconciliation with others as a means of fostering peaceful coexistence and strengthening national unity in the face of external challenges. This participation reflects the UNESCO Chair’s enduring commitment to engaging with knowledge institutions dedicated to the study of societal peace by advancing opportunities for dialogue, mutual understanding, and harmonious coexistence among all components of society.
