UNESCO CHAIR For Inter-Religious Dialogue Studies in The Islamic World
Dr. Alaa Shatnan, Director of the UNESCO Chair at the University of Kufa, took part in the virtual meeting that brought together the directors of UNESCO Chairs at the Universities of Kufa, Baghdad, and Mosul, as well as the American University of Iraq, on Monday, 22 December 2025.
The meeting was held under the auspices of the Department of Scholarships and Cultural Relations at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
The meeting included a formal welcome marking the inauguration of the new UNESCO Chairs at the University of Dhi Qar and the Northern Technical University in Mosul, alongside an introduction to their academic missions and objectives. Participants also deliberated on preparations for the second edition of the International Conference of UNESCO Chairs in Iraq, which is anticipated to be convened at the end of next April. This forthcoming edition builds upon the notable success of the inaugural conference, held in Baghdad on the first and second of October 2025.
