A Specialized Dialogue Session on Unity and Diversity in Islamic Architecture

In a distinguished spirit of scholarly collaboration, the Imam Amir al-Mu’minin (peace be upon him) Center for Specialized Studies and Research in Holy Najaf, in partnership with the UNESCO Chair at the University of Kufa and the College of Archaeology at the University of Mosul, convened an academic dialogue session entitled: “The Concept of Unity and Diversity in Islamic Architecture – The Shrine of Amir al-Mu’minin (peace be upon him) as a Paradigmatic Model.” The session was held on the evening of Wednesday, 21 January 2026, in the hall of the Imam Amir al-Mu’minin Center in Najaf al-Ashraf.

Participants, including Professor Dr. Marwan Salem Sharif (University of Mosul) and Professor Dr. Abdul Hadi Al-Ibrahimi (Al-Alawiya Holy Shrine), underscored that Islamic architecture transcends its material structure to become an intellectual and civilizational space—one that embodies cultural interpenetration and aesthetic synthesis. They affirmed that the sacred Al-Alawi Shrine stands as a singular testament to this heritage, where artistic plurality harmonizes with symbolic unity in a profoundly expressive architectural language.

The event was distinguished by the presence of a select assembly of academics and intellectuals from the Universities of Mosul and Kufa, members of the “Lamassu” Organization for Culture, as well as eminent scholars and students of the Hawza seminary, lending the gathering an atmosphere of refined scholarly engagement and cultural depth.
