The UNESCO Chair member, Asst. Prof. Dr. Hasan Zuhair Al-Sarraf, participated in the Annual Translation Conference organized by Dar Al-Ma’moon for Translation and Publishing at the Iraqi Ministry of Culture. The eighth edition of the conference was held on Monday, 2 November 2026, at Ibn Al-Nadim Hall, located in the Digital Library Building at the National Library and Archives of Iraq, under the slogan: “Translation Promotes Peace: The Najeeb Al-Manea Translator’s Edition.”
The conference was attended by the Iraqi Minister of Culture, along with a number of academics, researchers, and translators from various Iraqi universities, as well as distinguished intellectuals, writers, and individuals interested in cultural affairs.
This edition was named after the late Iraqi translator Najeeb Al-Manea in recognition of his distinguished career in translation, his significant cultural contributions, and his tenure as Director of the Central Translation Authority, which served as the founding foundation of Dar Al-Ma’moon.
The conference focused on the translation of religious texts and their significance from the perspectives of the participating researchers. This topic coincided with Baghdad’s selection as the Capital of Culture in the Islamic World for 2026.
The conference featured two scientific sessions, which included discussions and research perspectives presented by a number of academics and researchers. The first session, entitled “Religious Translation: The Discourse of Tolerance and Issues of Meaning,” was chaired by Professor Saad Al-Hassani. The second session, entitled “Religious Translation: Digital Developments and Tourism Functions,” was chaired by Dr. Qasim Al-Asadi.
The conference’s final statement included a number of important recommendations aimed at supporting translation activities and strengthening their role in promoting religious tourism in Iraq.
