UNESCO Chair Member Participates in a Seminar on Political Extremism and Abuse of Power
Dr. Raed Obais, a member of the UNESCO Chair for Interreligious Dialogue at the University of Kufa, participated in a seminar entitled “Political Extremism and Abuse of Power,” held in cooperation with the Iraqi Association of Political Sciences and Al-Makin Foundation for Sciences and Knowledge on Saturday, 10 October 2026, at Al-Makin Foundation.
Dr. Obais delivered a lecture entitled “How Can We Protect Ourselves from Political Extremism and the Abuse of Power?”
The seminar was attended by a number of civil society organisation founders, representatives of various institutions, and members of the intellectual community. The lecture explored several ideas and factors that give rise to political extremism, as well as the social dynamics that contribute to its spread within society. It also examined how political extremism can culminate in the seizure and monopolisation of power, ultimately leading to deviations from its legitimate foundations.
At the conclusion of the seminar, the Iraqi Association of Political Sciences honoured the participants by presenting them with certificates of appreciation in recognition of their contributions to the event.
