UNESCO Chair Participates in UNESCO International Seminar “Transforming Global Governance”

Dr. Alaa Shatnan, Director of the UNESCO Chair, participated in the virtual international seminar titled “Transforming Global Governance,” organized by the UNESCO Chairs Network on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at 2 PM Paris time.

The seminar brought together UNESCO Chairs, university twinning networks, and other partners to discuss key topics and actions related to global governance, international cooperation, international mobility, and all human rights, including the right to development, from a future-oriented perspective.

The seminar aimed to address the unprecedented strain on the multilateral system, enhance international cooperation, and tackle gaps in governance. The “Pact for the Future,” which will be adopted at the “Summit of the Future,” seeks to restore public trust in global institutions by making them more representative and inclusive.

Participants considered the role of academics and researchers as bridge builders between government, civil society, and academia, as well as ways to amplify diverse voices in global governance, including those of youth and women, and to promote community-led initiatives. They also reflected on discussions from previous UNESCO Chair seminars in this series, which covered topics such as financing sustainable development, international peace and security, science, technology, and innovation, youth and future generations, and their impact on multilateralism.
