UNESCO Chair Hosts a Scientific Symposium on Translation and Linguistic Interaction and Their Role in Promoting Tolerance and Interfaith Dialogue

In collaboration with the College of Education for Humanities at the University of Karbala, the UNESCO Chair at the University of Kufa organized a scientific symposium titled “Translation and Linguistic Interaction and Their Impact on Tolerance and Interfaith and Cultural Dialogue, with Dr. Jad Allah Al-Qurani as a Model”. The symposium was held on Monday, December 9, 2024, at the College of Education Hall at the University of Karbala.

The symposium featured lectures by Dr. Alaa Shatnan, Director of the UNESCO Chair at the University of Kufa, Dr. Uday Mohsen Ghafil, a faculty member at the College of Education at the University of Karbala, and Dr. Yaseen Taha Yaseen from the Institute of Translation at the University of Algiers.

The symposium addressed several key topics, including an analysis of UNESCO’s Declaration on the Principles of Tolerance, its most significant provisions, and its commitment to spreading the values of tolerance worldwide through various governmental, academic, societal, and cultural channels. The event also emphasized the role of translation in fostering interfaith and cultural dialogue. Furthermore, it shed light on the personality of Jad Allah Al-Qurani, detailing his conversion to Islam, his dedicated study of Quranic sciences, his sincere faith, and his efforts in spreading Islam and the culture of tolerance, especially in many African countries. The symposium also highlighted his written works, intellectual contributions, and their impact on his missionary activities, as well as the role of translation and linguistic interaction in fostering communication among peoples and bridging perspectives.
