The UNESCO Chair for Interreligious Dialogue at the University of Kufa participated in the proceedings of the Eighth International Conference of the Martyr Muhammad Baqir al-Sadr Prize for Excellence and Creativity, held at the University of Imam al-Sadiq (peace be upon him) in the holy city of Najaf on Thursday, the eleventh of June, 2026. The conference brought together a distinguished assembly of researchers and academics drawn from a wide array of scholarly and cultural institutions, convening with the shared purpose of engaging in profound intellectual and epistemological discourse inspired by the reformist vision of the martyred thinker Muhammad Baqir al-Sadr and his enduring contributions to thought and civilisation.
The Chair’s participation took the form of a scholarly paper presented by Dr. Zainab al-Rikabi, a member of the UNESCO Chair, bearing the title: “Reform and Martyrdom in the Light of the Qur’anic Vision and the Path of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) as Two Mechanisms for the Revival of the Nation and the Safeguarding of Its Civilisational Continuity.” In her paper, Dr. al-Rikabi examined the Qur’anic and intellectual dimensions of the twin concepts of reform and martyrdom, presenting them as two foundational pillars in the construction of the nation and the fortification of its capacity to endure across the ages and to stand steadfast in the face of contemporary challenges.
