Sayyid Mohammad Ali Bahr al-Ulloum was born in 1966 in Najaf – Iraq, for a well-known religious family. He migrated to Kuwait in 1972 with his family due to a death sentence being issued against his late father, Sayyid Muhammad Bahr al-Ulloum (d. 2015) for his political activities.
He started his religious studies in the religious seminaries (Hawza) in Qom, Iran in 1984, whereby he completed his studies in Fiqh, Philosophy and Islamic theology.
In 1996, Sayyid Mohammad Ali Bahr al-Ulloum obtained his BA in Law at the Beirut Arab University in Lebanon. In 2001, he received his MA in Islamic Law at the Islamic University, Lebanon.
He returned to Najaf in 2003, where he continued his religious studies and teaching in Hawza in Najaf.
Sayyid Mohammad Ali Bahr al-Ulloum published many books and articles in a number of intellectual journals. He also presented a series of religious lectures and seminars as well as participated in many conferences in Iraq and abroad.
