In cooperation with the UNESCO Chair for Interreligious Dialogue at the University of Kufa, and in coordination with the Women’s Affairs Unit at the College of Education for Girls, as well as in collaboration with the University’s Center for Continuing Education, the Women’s Affairs Division organized an awareness seminar entitled:
“Safe Women… A Stronger Society: Confronting Domestic, Institutional, and Societal Violence through Awareness and Reform.”
The seminar was held in the auditorium of the College of Education for Girls on Monday, 9 December 2025, within the framework of ongoing efforts to enhance societal awareness and to reject all forms of violence.
The seminar aimed to analyze the causes and consequences of violence in its various manifestations—physical, verbal, material, and administrative—while shedding light on the reality of violence against women and highlighting the role of participants and community institutions in addressing and mitigating this phenomenon.
The event featured a series of lectures delivered by Dr. Sahar Jaber Al-Hassani, Dean of the College of Education for Girls; Dr. Wurood Waleed Hamoud; Dr. Zainab Haidar Al-Rikabi; and Dr. Hawraa Najah Abd. The presentations addressed multiple themes, including domestic and administrative violence in terms of their roots and impacts, societal violence between lived reality and shared responsibility, and the international fight against violence against women through an analysis of United Nations strategies. The lectures also emphasized the role of dialogue as a preventive tool against violence, in addition to exploring the psychological and social repercussions of violence on women and the family.
At the conclusion of the seminar, participants recommended that educational institutions intensify the organization of workshops and awareness seminars on a regular basis to foster a culture of dialogue and the rejection of violence, particularly administrative and institutional violence. They further stressed the importance of establishing or activating specialized units within the university to provide psychological, social, and legal support, offering counseling and assistance to students and staff affected by violence.
